Experience Matters
Bertsche Engineering Corporation, established in 1972, is a designer and builder of high performance standard and custom machine tools, automatic tool changers, high pressure water jet cleaning & deburring machines and robotics. Major industrial sectors represented among Bertsche Engineering customers are aircraft and aerospace industries, mold and die, fluid product and automotive industries. Our customers are diverse and range in size from small machine shops to Fortune 100 Manufacturers.
Since 1992, Bertsche Engineering has pioneered the development of very high feedrate long bed traveling column-machining centers. Available as vertical spindle, as horizontal spindle, and as 5-Axis machines, they feature very long travels in X, very high spindle RPM, feed and rapid rates and high acceleration–all necessary components for high feedrate machining.

Originally incorporated as Bertsche Engineering Sales Corp., began in business in 1972 primarily selling, installing and servicing digital readout systems for the metalworking industry. As technology advanced, so did the needs of the industry we serve. Recognizing this trend, Bertsche Engineering Sales began redesigning, retrofitting and remanufacturing machine tools for computer numerical controlled operation.
”1980>1989″
In 1987 the automatic tool changing and automation systems group was formed for the purpose of designing and integrating flexible part loading and handling systems for use in all types of flexible manufacturing applications.
”1990>1999″
Bertsche Engineering introduced in 1992 the first “High Velocity” 3-axis Traveling Column CNC Vertical Machining Center. In 1994 BEC was selected as the supplier to Rockwell then later to Boeing North American (1997) on the Boeing 777 program for the AFG Floor Beam and Longitudinal Machining System. In 1996 BEC was awarded U.S. & EU patents for Direct Drive 2 Axis Rotary CNC Milling Heads used in the complex milling of 5 axis parts. In 1998 BEC was selected as the supplier to Boeing Commercial Airplane Group for the AFG machining system on the Boeing 767-400 program.
”2000>2009″
In 2001 BEC introduced the X-Mill, a high performance raised bed High Velocity Machining Center. In 2003 BEC introduces Matrix Style high storage capacity tool storage and retrieval systems for Lockheed Martin and Airbus. In 2004 BEC introduces the DFT-Xmill, a reconfigurable multitasking High Velocity Machining Center utilizing a monolithic raised bed, switchable single & dual work zone operation and “Tool Centered Feed Force” drive arrangement. In 2005 BEC selected as sole supplier by Boeing AFG Floor & Longitudinal Beam Machining System for the 777 and 767 AFG program. In 2006 BEC is selected as sole supplier by Spirit Aerospace for a turnkey fully tooled flexible machining cell to manufacture C, J, H floor beams for the Boeing 787 and 777 programs. System features Smart Tooling™ work holding, for single setup 5 axis milling, drilling and sawing of multiple part families.
”2010>2018″
In 2010 BEC is selected as a supplier to Boeings, Everett Facility to supply turnkey fully tooled Flex-Cell to manufacture floor beams for the Boeing 747-8 program. In 2011 BEC is selected as floor beam supplier to the 787-8 and 787-9 program for Tier 1 suppliers Spirit, Kawasaki, Alenia. Today, Bertsche Engineering Corp. offers turnkey solutions, products and services to customers seeking innovative answers to manufacturing problems.
